Avent Ferry Road is the quiet workhorse of a Holly Pointe summer. Turn one direction out of the neighborhood and the pavement runs about five miles to a 680-acre county park on the Shearon Harris Reservoir. Turn the other and it feeds you toward Green Oaks Parkway, where a plaza that barely existed a year ago is now the closest thing Holly Springs has to a walkable Friday-night district. Most weekend guides for the Triangle send you to Cary or downtown Raleigh. From your driveway, you don't need to leave the zip code.
Here is what that looks like right now, in the middle of July 2026, if you already live here.
The road that does two jobs
The thesis of this post is simple. Holly Pointe sits on the only stretch of road in southern Wake County that connects a working reservoir park to a brand-new commercial plaza without routing you back through downtown. That is unusual. Most Holly Springs neighborhoods are either close to the trails or close to the restaurants. This one is genuinely close to both, and the two ends of Avent Ferry are doing very different things this summer.
Harris Lake, mid-construction and still worth the drive
If you have not been to Harris Lake County Park in the past few months, the entrance looks different. The county is building a new kayak launch, and construction started reshaping traffic patterns in late January. A section of the road into the day-use parking area is closed for the foreseeable future, staff have moved into a temporary trailer across the parking lot from the park office, and posted signage now routes visitors to a temporary launch. None of this closes the park. It just means the muscle memory of pulling straight into your usual spot no longer works.
Once you are past the reroute, the park is doing what it always does in July:
- The Hog Run Mountain Bike Trail is open, including the Flow section built with rollers, berms, and tabletop dirt jumps that TORC and Wake County finished back in 2018.
- Non-motorized boats launch from inside the park. Trailered or motorized boats have to use Holleman's Crossing or Cross Point Landing, which are operated by the NC Wildlife Resources Commission on other parts of the reservoir.
- Park grounds are open 8 a.m. to sunset, every day this summer.
One thing to know if you have kids in elementary school: the county's summer day camps at Harris Lake meet at the Cypress Shelter and campers bring their own lunch and snack. Registration for the 2026 sessions opened back in early February and slots tend to fill quickly, so if you are penciling in a last-minute week, check availability before you plan around it.
The bigger annual events at Harris Lake are the Longleaf Celebration in May and Harris Spook-tacular in October. July is quieter, which is arguably the point. If you want a two-hour Saturday morning that ends before the heat sets in, this is the closest park to Holly Pointe where you can hike, fish, and disc-golf on the same visit.
The Oakview Commons stretch, five minutes the other direction
The change most residents talk about right now is at the intersection of Holly Springs New Hill Road and Green Oaks Parkway, near the 12 Oaks community. Oakview Commons opened its first wave of tenants last fall and has kept adding through the spring. The current lineup is worth naming, because "new shopping center" undersells what has actually moved in:
- Oakview Public House at 131 Oakview Commons Drive, Suite 101, a locally owned restaurant with a patio, a bourbon list, seasonal small plates, seafood, and steaks. The kids' menu, per the owners, aims for real food with zero drama.
- Arita Ramen & Sushi, doing Japanese ramen bowls and sushi in a warm, modern room. The space reads casual for a Tuesday and dressy enough for a birthday.
- Grain & Berry, a superfood café pouring açaí and pitaya bowls, smoothies, cold-pressed juices, parfaits, specialty toasts, and plant-based flatbreads and quesadillas.
- Thanks A Latte at 161 Oakview Commons Drive, a coffee and gift shop.
- Golf Hour, an indoor golf lounge with four TruGolf Apogee simulator bays, twelve TVs, multi-sport gaming, and a fifteen-tap self-pour taproom.
- Switch Craft and Image Studios rounding out the early tenant mix.
Two wellness businesses were slated to open in January 2026, including a 4,500-square-foot 24/7 gym with cold plunge and sauna recovery and a wellness lounge offering cryotherapy, infrared saunas, red light therapy, and IV drips. If you have not walked through in a few months, it is worth another pass.
The other detail worth flagging is how 12 Oaks residents are getting there. The plaza is walkable, bikeable, and golf-cart accessible from that neighborhood, and a micro-transit shuttle was planned to begin in January 2026. From Holly Pointe you are still driving, but the drive is short and the parking is easy compared to downtown on a Friday.
A sample July weekend
Rather than a list of possibilities, here is one way a weekend could actually go this month without ever crossing US-1.

Nothing on that schedule requires the highway. That is the point.
Where the town shows up on Friday nights
The Cultural Center concert series, "Summer at the Springs," is the closest thing Holly Springs has to a standing Friday-night ritual. The lawn shows run 6 to 9 PM, they are free, and Bombshell Beer Company sponsors the beer and wine sales alongside food trucks. Bring a chair or a blanket.
Two dates are left on the summer calendar:
July 17 — Dark Echoes, a Pink Floyd tribute August 21 — All Y'all Country All-Stars
One logistics note. Wake County is renovating the Holly Springs Community Library inside the Cultural Center complex, with the lobby planned to be closed from roughly June 15 to July 15. Outdoor portable restrooms are set up for concert use in the meantime. Cultural Center programming itself is running as scheduled.
If Friday concerts are not your speed, the Arts Holly Springs jazz series, Blue Notes & Bright Nights, has a Chamber Soul date on July 25 at 6:00 PM on Avent Ferry Road. It is a shorter drive from Holly Pointe than any of the Raleigh venues you would otherwise consider for live jazz.
Two low-effort summer routines worth keeping
The Holly Springs Salamanders play a Coastal Plain League schedule at Ting Stadium inside the North Main Athletic Complex, and July is their densest home stretch. Notable dates this month include a Sunday 5:05 PM game on July 12 against the Peninsula Pilots, a Wednesday 6:30 PM game on July 15 against the Zebulon Devil Dogz, a Friday 6:30 PM game on July 17 against the Asheboro Zookeepers, a Friday 6:30 PM game on July 24 against the Yorktown Coconuts, and a Sunday 5:05 PM game on July 26 against the Greenville Yard Gnomes. Summer collegiate baseball tickets are inexpensive and the games are short enough to bring kids without a plan for the third inning.
The Holly Springs Farmers Market runs Saturdays on the Cultural Center grounds. July 18 is Blueberry Day, with blueberry-themed vendors and seasonal offerings tied to the North Carolina crop. If you make one Saturday-morning stop that week, this is the one that will not be the same in October.
And a few smaller options worth having on the shortlist:
- Bombshell Beer Company at 120 Quantum Dr for a low-key Saturday night. Joe Hero, a Foo Fighters tribute band, plays July 11.
- Homegrown Pizza for a Saturday-evening live music set, with Steve Vee on July 11 at 6:00 PM.
- Wine 100 at 100 W Ballentine St, doing acoustic weekend sets, including Garland Mason on Friday and Kenny Shore on Saturday July 18 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM.
- Sugg Farm at Bass Lake Park for a walk that does not require driving to Harris Lake if you are short on time.
The bigger point about this address
The best argument for living at the far end of Avent Ferry Road is not any single amenity. It is that a five-minute drive covers real range this summer. You can be on a mountain bike trail before nine and inside a ramen shop by one, then on a concert lawn by six. Most neighborhoods in this price band pick one of those experiences. This corner of Holly Springs is quietly offering all three.
